A cute baby koala joey has made a miraculous recovery after being found on death’s door near the Australian bushfires.
When Keli the koala was found, he weighed only 275g and a fungal infection had caused him to lose most of his fur.
He was taken to the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital back in September.
As the Australian bush fires rage on, the hospital have raised hopes by showing new images of Keli and his amazing recovery.
‘Just a brighter moment — in all the tragedy in Australia at the moment we wanted to share something good,’ the hospital wrote on Facebook.
‘Look at Keli today, a whopping 1kg in weight, the fungal infection has gone and all his fur is regrowing. It’s still early days yet, we will get very excited when he makes 2.5kg.
‘And it’s time for him to come into the “dehumanising trees” in preparation for release back to the wild.
‘Release will not happen until the cooler months, and thankfully there is still some good habitat left in selected locations.’
Since September, almost half a billion animals have perished in the Australian bushfires.
